Ramsay Pope, From Stage to Physical Therapy
Ramsay Pope, a 2011 Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship recipient, used the award to attend London Cultural Connections, an acting program in London and Wales. While he didn’t pursue a career in acting, Ramsay shares how the experience significantly shaped his personal growth and development.
“There’s no doubt that acting boosted my self-confidence as I was growing up. Performing in front of an audience helped me shed social anxieties. Sometimes I would 'become' the character, but more often, I’d simply talk myself through the nerves. The idea that ‘the show must go on’—as cliché as it sounds—really did help,” Ramsay reflected.
Earlier this year, Ramsay earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy and now works as a physical therapist in the Greater Boston area. His practice focuses on post-operative care, rehabilitation for individuals with neurological conditions, and helping athletes return to their sport after significant injuries.
Ramsay works at an inner-city community health center, where more than 70% of his patients require interpretation services. He credits his acting background with enhancing his verbal and non-verbal communication, which is vital when navigating language barriers. Ramsay notes that in healthcare, circumstances can change quickly, and the ability to think on your feet is essential. He believes his time in acting helped him develop the confidence, communication skills, and adaptability that he now uses daily to manage unexpected challenges and provide top-tier patient care.
Outside of work, Ramsay enjoys competitive rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and snowboarding. He also loves spending time with his 7-year-old dog, Gromit, and watching movies.
