Amber Romano Reimagines Ballet Training for Today’s Classrooms
Amber Romano continues to build a career centered on dance education, entering her fifth year teaching in the Dance and Musical Theatre Departments at the Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) while continuing to teach at two studios in Virginia Beach. She also returned to the Regional High School Dance Festival in Norfolk, Virginia, where she taught ballet, and recently set a historical classical ballet piece on GSA students for the school’s Winter Dance Concert.
This summer, Amber further expanded her teaching expertise by becoming certified in Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), a ballet conditioning program designed to help students develop strength, body awareness, and technique.
Her most significant new endeavor, however, is a project that has been years in the making. Amber is developing The 60-Minute Ballet Class™: A Reimagined Framework for Educators Navigating Time Constraints, a program created to address a challenge she has encountered throughout her teaching career: the increasingly limited time available for ballet instruction in studio programs.
As Amber explains, “Teachers struggle to condense a full ballet class into 60-minutes or less, and students are unable to fully understand and appreciate ballet technique within those time constraints.” Rather than waiting for class periods to become longer, she decided to develop a framework specifically designed to work within shorter sessions.
Amber has been developing the program for several years and has already seen significant success implementing it with her own students. She is currently in the market-testing phase and plans to officially launch the business in summer 2027, transforming her experience as an educator into a resource for other ballet teachers.
Through her teaching, professional development, and entrepreneurial work, Amber continues to find new ways to support the next generation of dancers while advancing the practice of dance education itself.
