Nicaya's love for dance has been a lifelong passion that started from a very early age. Dancing has served as her outlet for stress relief, a remedy for depression, and a source of motivation despite her learning disability. It has pulled her through difficult times and become a cathartic experience. In return, Nicaya dedicates herself wholeheartedly to dance, considering it an integral part of her identity.
Nicaya's devotion to dance extends beyond a single genre. She strives to be proficient in all dance styles and rejects being labeled as a specific type of dancer. Her goal is to be known simply as a dancer who goes beyond memorizing choreography. She immerses herself in the music, assigns meaning and stories to the movements, and brings each piece to life with passion. For her, dance is not merely a sequence of steps but an expression of the soul.
Recognizing the importance of continuous learning and hard work, Nicaya made the decision to leave competitive dance three years ago to join the pre-professional training program at Center of Contemporary Arts (COCA). This opportunity has allowed her to train with exceptional instructors and renowned choreographers, including former Alvin Ailey company members. Nicaya's ultimate aspiration is to train at The Ailey School, an esteemed institution in the dance world. Funding from The Anthony Quinn Foundation will help her attend their summer intensive program. With graduation approaching in 2019, Nicaya plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at either Ailey-Fordham University or Marymount Manhattan College. She envisions a future where dance remains an integral part of her life and career.
