Max finds solace and freedom from school worries when he paints, experiencing a release of tension. Inspired by Joaquín Sorolla's mastery of white and transparency in Realism, Max admires the artist's ability to evoke emotion through his works. Visiting the Prado Museum, Max realizes that artists, like himself, are ordinary people, inspiring him to persevere in his passion for painting despite it not being popular among his friends.
His journey in art began at the age of 9 when he received an easel and canvas as a birthday gift, sparking his love for painting. Although initially wishing for a dog, he started painting dogs instead, drawn to their expressive gaze. Guided by his painting teacher, Isidoro, Max embraces his artistic style, learning various techniques and honing his observational skills.
Influenced by his grandfather, who shared his love for painting in their New York City basement, Max treasures the memories of their time together. He sees the Summer Program at UNCSA as an opportunity to explore American perspectives on art, including contemporary painters like Richard Estes, whose intricate details captivate him. Max aspires to develop his painting skills further, aiming to paint like his admired artists one day.
