Liam DeRosa, a violist from Cranston, Rhode Island, holds prominent positions in various musical ensembles, including principal violist in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and concertmaster of the Cranston High School East Orchestra. Alongside his studies with renowned instructors, Liam is deeply committed to community engagement, regularly performing with local orchestras, ensembles, and at special events. His musical journey began at a young age, starting with piano at 6, then violin at 7, and finally focusing on viola at 10.
For Liam, music serves as a vehicle for building community and fostering personal growth. Through years of ensemble playing, he has found solace and identity, urging others not to isolate themselves and to embrace the communal nature of music-making. His passion for music stems from the joy it brings, rather than from accolades or competition, believing that music should be pursued for its intrinsic value and the connections it fosters.
Liam credits the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School for instilling in him not only musical skills but also important community-based values. He sees Tanglewood Viola Workshop as opportunities to further develop his artistry, learning from esteemed artist-teachers and expanding his musical network. With a focus on collaboration and open-mindedness, Liam's community-oriented approach to music has not only enriched his talent but also shaped his identity as a musician.
