Julia Giordano

2018 Music Composition Scholarship Recipient

Julia, a 16-year-old composer and pianist, has been deeply passionate about music for as long as she can remember. Whether she is playing classical compositions or creating her own music, Julia finds joy in expressing herself through this art form. Recognizing the importance of early exposure to composition, she started a small school in her neighborhood to teach children about musical genres, basic piano skills, and the art of composing. Witnessing the growth of her students has become an additional passion for Julia as she strives to unlock their full musical potential.

Living in an area with limited access to musical opportunities, Julia cherishes the experience she had last summer attending the high school composition intensive at Boston Conservatory. The program accelerated her creative process, taught her collaboration with fellow musicians, expanded her knowledge of composition, and familiarized her with various orchestral instruments. Eager to repeat this enriching experience, Julia is drawn to the summer composition program offered by the Chicago College of Performing Arts. The program's focus on exploring different compositional software tools, receiving private lessons, engaging with guest artists, and professionally recording her compositions with skilled musicians aligns perfectly with her artistic goals.

Julia yearns for an environment where she can immerse herself in art, music, and creativity while being surrounded by artists from diverse genres. She is committed to remaining open, embracing collaboration wholeheartedly, and dedicating herself to hard work if awarded this scholarship. For Julia, this opportunity represents a chance to thrive as a composer, to learn from exceptional instructors, and to continue her musical journey in a supportive and inspiring setting.
