Jane sees art as a powerful means of personal expression and a tool for connecting with others. She recognizes its ability to evoke emotions and create positive change in society. Jane's ultimate goal is to use art as a platform to express her own identity and convictions while promoting intercultural empathy. However, she feels that her current artwork is in an in-between state, yearning to be more effective in conveying her ideas. Jane is passionate about social issues and strives to incorporate them into her art, but she acknowledges the need to improve her process to achieve conceptual closeness and successful execution.
Despite her artistic ambitions, Jane faces societal and familial pressures to let go of her passion. Her school lacks a year-round art program, hindering her artistic growth. In her first-generation Chinese household, art is seen as an obstacle to personal and social success, leading Jane to hide her artistic commitments. However, she has found solace in seizing every artistic opportunity her school offers, such as participating in Yearbook, TEDx, and starting the school art club. Jane yearns for the opportunity to participate in the SAIC ECP Summer Institute Advanced Projects class, where she can develop her artistic voice, feel empowered, and freely enter the art world. She seeks immersion in a creative community that will inspire her, allowing her to experiment freely and break self-imposed boundaries.
Jane's desire to pursue art without constraints stems from her belief that it is an integral part of her life path, despite being told otherwise. She yearns to explore her potential, grow as an artist, and determine the true significance of art in her life.
