August Bagg

2018 Musical Theatre Scholarship Recipient

August's love affair with musical theatre began at the age of five, during his very first performance in a junior production of "Cats" at a children's theatre school called YADA. Despite a nervous start and a minor mishap, his experience on stage sparked a deep passion within him and set him on the path to pursue musical theatre professionally. From that moment on, August knew that musical theatre was his calling.

For August, musical theatre is not only something he enjoys as an audience member, but it is where his true love lies—as an actor. The process of receiving a script and score, meeting fellow cast members, and embarking on the journey of creating a character fills him with immense satisfaction. August finds joy in exploring the intricate relationships his character has with others, and he cherishes the collaborative nature of theatre. Sharing the final production with an audience and witnessing their unique reactions each night is a truly amazing experience for him. Theatre has become an integral part of August's life, and he cannot imagine a future without it.

Recognizing the importance of training and the competitive nature of the field, August will be attending MPulse at the University of Michigan, which offers a comprehensive curriculum in acting, singing, and dance. August is particularly drawn to this program because it provides a glimpse into what it would be like to attend a BFA Musical Theatre program for college. He hopes to refine his dance skills, improve his technique, and gain the necessary tools for audition preparation. August believes that attending a summer program of this caliber will be invaluable for his growth as an artist and as a prospective BFA candidate.
