Alex, a 16-year-old student at Chicago High School for the Arts, applied for the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship to support his passion for dance. Despite facing bullying in middle school, he remained committed to dance and eventually moved to Chicago with his parents to pursue his dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer. Alex's dance education extends beyond school, as he also trains at local Chicago dance studios such as the Chicago Multicultural Dance Center and Hyde Park School of Dance. His favorite dance styles are classical and contemporary ballet.
Receiving the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship will play a vital role in helping Alex achieve his goal. He plans to utilize the funds to cover the expenses of attending a high-quality summer intensive dance program, such as the Joffrey Ballet School Trainee Program.
Attending a summer intensive program would offer Alex valuable opportunities for mentorship, training, and networking. He would have the chance to learn from experienced professional dancers, connect with peers and professionals from different regions, and benefit from the intensive training schedule that typically includes more than 30 hours of training per week over several weeks. Alex believes that attending high-quality summer intensives is crucial for his professional growth and development, an opinion shared by his current dance mentors and other dancers he has spoken with.
