Siah Berlatsky Brings Fresh Voices to Chicago and New York Stages

Siah Berlatsky, a 2020 AQF Theatre Scholarship recipient, continues to expand her creative horizons as an actor, playwright, and director based in Chicago.

This August, Siah took on the role of Olive in the world premiere of ‘Quinlyn Can Paint’ by Zach Barr, produced by Black Cat Theatre at The Edge Off-Broadway in Chicago. The play, a unique monologue-driven drama, explores identity, artistry, and the complicated dynamics of sisterhood as the three Hollinger sisters—from impressive artists to thoughtful educators—reflect on legacy and the meaning of creative success. Quinlyn Can Paint delves into the tension between ambition and self-doubt, casting a compelling light on how the sisters see themselves—and each other.

In addition to her performance, Siah's acclaimed playwriting continues to shine. Malapert Love, her sharply funny, Shakespearean-inspired farce, is set to make its Off-Broadway debut this October at The Tank in New York. The play originally premiered with Chicago’s The Artistic Home and earned widespread praise. Reviewers called it “utterly hilarious,” a “pure delight,” and “highly recommended”—highlighting its clever wordplay, frenetic sword-fighting scenes, and its unapologetically queer, farcical take on identity and desire. Malapert Love also won recognition as a Joseph Jefferson Award–winning work—a testament to its inventive theatrical flair.

Planned Performances

  • Quinlyn Can Paint – World Premiere as Olive, produced by Black Cat Theatre, The Edge Off-Broadway, Chicago (August 2025).

  • Malapert Love – Off-Broadway debut, October 2025 at The Tank, New York—bringing Siah’s incisive comedic voice to the East Coast stage.
