Kashvi Ramani at Shakespeare Theatre Company
Kashvi (AQF '24) shares her Shakespeare summer camp experience at STC, how much it helped her grow as a performer.
"This summer I received the unique opportunity to attend Shakespeare Theatre Company's summer intensive for two sessions, totaling six weeks of a Shakespeare-immersed experience entirely new to me. From the first table read, I knew I was surrounded by accomplished, talented, and passionate teenagers who loved Shakespeare just as much, if not more, than they loved acting.
Attending NYU Tisch in the Fall, drama has always been familiar to me, but I knew very little about Shakespeare prior to this summer. But during the six weeks that I was in the cast of "Romeo and Juliet" and "As You Like It", I learned so much more about stage combat, scansion, verse/prose, understanding text, rhetoric, and acting as a whole. I even acted with congressmen in D.C. and an actor who has worked professionally in Hollywood!
As Romeo, I learned how to mourn loss as much as love and fight for my family's honor.
As Rosalind, I learned how to shed hyper-femininity like a scarf, taking control of the privileges naturally given to men.
I am so grateful to Anthony Quinn for allowing me to grow so much as a performer and learn more about the classics in the process."
