Jordyn Sarmoen at Arts Umbrella in Canada

Jordyn (AQF '25) tells us about her experience at the Arts Umbrella International Summer Dance Intensive and how it was extremely eye opening.

“Thank you again for helping me with the tuition costs for this intensive, it exceeded all my expectations. Each day I had the opportunity to work with incredible teachers and choreographers, where I participated in a wide variety of classes. I began my mornings with modern (limon), and ballet. Then I moved onto more movement exploration through improvisation and repertoire classes. I was able to learn repertoire from Netherlands Dans Theater, which was amazing because that is a company I dream of being in one day.

I found the whole experience extremely eye opening, especially as I prepare to apply for Arts Umbrella's post secondary program and other post secondary programs as well. They talked a lot about how to best help yourself succeed as an artist trying to move into the post secondary and then professional world. I learned to lean into what I have to offer, and put myself out there.

I feel I gained a better sense of myself not only as a dancer, but also as an artist and person. I was able to draw connections between each of the classes and I will take all this information back home with me as I continue to train. I felt I was immersed into a super nurturing and positive environment, while receiving great training, and for that I am very grateful!”
