Jaison Maxwell at Savannah College of Art and Design

Jaison (AQF '25) recently returned from his Fashion design program at SCAD and shared how it helped him grow as an artist.

"I had so much fun and learned even more at the SCAD Rising Star program! I’ve been incredibly busy over the past three weeks, but it’s all been completely worth it! This experience was anything but boring — it was exciting, inspiring, energizing, busy, a little stressful, and just the right amount of crazy (in the best way). I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve been working hard on my drawing skills in my drawing class, practicing everything from rendering perfume bottles to capturing the folds of drapery. I’ve also explored new techniques like printmaking, charcoal, and monotypes.

I learned so much from my professors that I’ll carry with me into my future studies. I also met so many amazing people from all different backgrounds and personalities who made this experience unforgettable. While I came in a little nervous, I quickly found my rhythm thanks to the people around me and those cheering me on in spirit.

One of the highlights was visiting SCAD’s fashion museum, where I got to sketch the stunning garments on display and dive deeper into the rich history of fashion—my favorite kind of history! In my Fashion Aesthetics class, I’ve been learning about the business and marketing side of the fashion world, including all the different levels from producers to consumers. I've even given a few presentations on my favorite icons, like LAW Roach and Christian Siriano, to help strengthen my communication skills.

Overall, I’ve loved my experience at SCAD. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to grow not only as a student, but as an artist, designer, and entrepreneur. And connect with new friends from all walks of life and creative interests. Thank you AQF again for making this possible!”
