Whit is currently a senior at Iowa City High School, IA. His fascination with the performing arts began at a young age when he witnessed his sister and father performing on stage. Intrigued by their ability to transform into different characters, he eagerly awaited his own chance to participate. At the age of seven, he took the stage for the first time in the production of Blackbeard's Gold, playing the role of a rat. This experience sparked his love for playing characters and the impact they can have on an audience.
Whit realized that through his artistry, he could move and affect people, whether by bringing them joy or shifting their perspectives. Connecting with others through his characters became his ultimate goal as an artist. Whit sees the Southeastern Summer Theatre Institute as an opportunity to not only enhance his skills for the college audition process but also to prepare for independent living before entering college. He recognizes the importance of being self-sufficient and hopes to develop a stronger grasp on this skill before embarking on his college journey.
Additionally, he looks forward to working alongside a passionate cohort of individuals who share his love for the performing arts. The intensive program will provide a supportive environment where he can further hone his craft and pursue his future aspirations in the theater. The Anthony Quinn Foundation scholarship has granted him the opportunity to engage in this transformative experience, setting him on a path towards a fulfilling career in the performing arts.
