Hailey Couto

2017 Visual Arts Scholarship Recipient

Hailey is a passionate artist who has always been drawn to the world of art and its ability to impact emotions and thoughts. From a young age, she found joy in creating art and observing how it affected people's reactions and feelings. Colors, in particular, captivate Hailey, as she believes they have the power to evoke specific emotions and convey her own inner experiences. Hailey's desire to pursue a career in art led her to discover the pre-college program at Maine College of Art (MECA), which sparked her excitement and eagerness to participate. Unfortunately, financial constraints would hinder her from attending, but AQF scholarship will provide her with the opportunity to shine and learn alongside like-minded individuals.

The MECA pre-college program holds great significance for Hailey as she longs to connect with others who share her artistic interests. While she spends much of her school day immersed in art, few students at her current school possess the same level of dedication and passion. Hailey yearns for the chance to learn from different teachers and expand her artistic skills, particularly in the areas of blending techniques with paint and pencil. She also harbors a curiosity about sculpture, particularly working with clay, as she desires to delve into the realm of three-dimensional art. The MECA program would provide her with the necessary tools and equipment to explore this medium further.

Hailey expects that participating in MECA's pre-college program will offer her a wealth of learning experiences. From building confidence to honing her artistic skills and discovering her unique artistic voice, she envisions a transformative journey. Hailey believes that this opportunity will provide her with the tools and guidance she needs to become a more accomplished artist and showcase her authentic self through her artwork.
