Aidan Forster

2015 Literary Arts Scholarship Recipient

Aidan is deeply passionate about writing and aspires to make it his career or find a profession that allows him sufficient time for writing. His goal as a writer is to ask profound questions, challenge people's thinking, and explore the world around him. Despite South Carolina not being known as a strong advocate for the arts, Aidan is determined to demonstrate that genuine and impactful art exists in the state, capable of resonating with diverse audiences. He also emphasizes the significance of creative writing as a distinct art form that extends beyond the confines of the English department, advocating for its value and importance in fostering creativity and addressing significant questions that may be limited by standardized educational curricula.

Aidan will be attending the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities Summer Academy program for rising tenth graders. Having previously attended the SCGSAH Summer Discovery program for rising ninth graders, Aidan recognizes the program's positive impact on his writing skills, reading repertoire, and overall growth. He seeks to continue his studies at the institution to further improve his writing abilities and potentially pursue residential high school education at SCGSAH. During the Academy, Aidan aims to refine his skills in character development and relationships in fiction, while also enhancing his use of metaphor and imagery in poetry.

Attending the SCGSAH Summer Academy would provide Aidan with the opportunity to grow as both a writer and an individual. He anticipates expanding his understanding of creative writing, discovering its applications beyond his own work, and developing the skills necessary to create art that resonates deeply with others. Aidan recognizes the instructors' expertise as invaluable in his artistic journey and looks forward to their guidance and instruction in honing his writing abilities.
