Leah Hager at Complexions Academy
Leah (AQF '25) shares her experience at Complexions Summer Intensive and how transformative was for her as an artist.
"Complexions LA Summer Intensive was a transformational experience for me as an artist. From the rigorous training to the expansive repertoire, it was the perfect place to continue growing this summer. Each morning began with Nique, Complexions’ contemporary ballet technique, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Being able to take classical ballet and then use it to flow and elongate in entirely new ways was deeply inspiring. The fluidity of Nique not only helped me refine my technique but also revealed more about who I am as a dancer and mover.
Another part of the intensive was diving into the company’s vast and challenging repertoire. Dwight Rhoden’s choreography is truly extraordinary; it is physically demanding, emotionally charged, and incredibly dynamic. Through his work, I learned how much versatility, openness, and risk-taking are skills required in dance today. We covered so much material in such a short amount of time, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the challenge.
Overall, this experience left me feeling more empowered and connected to my artistry than ever before. It deepened my love for contemporary ballet and reminded me of how much I still want to explore and grow in dance. I absolutely cannot wait for the next time I have the opportunity to work with the Complexions Contemporary Ballet Academy.
Also thank you so much to the Anthony Quinn Foundation for making this incredible opportunity possible. I am beyond grateful for your support in my artistic journey.”
