Elanor Rubin at MTCA in New York City
Elanor (AQF '25) tells us about her experience at the MTCA Summer College Faculty Masterclass Week and how it helped her prepare for Musical Theatre college auditions.
“This summer was full of passion, training, and creative joy. Thanks to the generosity of the AQ Foundation and the Golden Family, I attended the MTCA summer masterclass week and it was a fantastic training experience to prepare for college auditions.
College auditions have always been a source of excitement but also a ton of stress on my mind. Knowing that I am not auditioning for a role and that I am only showcasing myself has always been very nerve wracking, and my preparation work has not always been productive because of that fear.
However, during MTCA week I got to work with teachers from some of the best MT college programs and receive individual feedback on my pieces that made me a better artist and way more comfortable in the room. I overcame that mental block and received some of the coolest advice I have ever been given.
Seeing each college’s style was really helpful to craft my application list and also just really fun because of all of the different kinds of feedback being thrown at me. I truly have never felt more empowered as an artist and I feel ready to present who I am in those audition rooms. Thank you to The Anthony Quinn Foundation and The Golden Family for making that possible.”
