Book Launch with Ben Mezrich and George Church

The Arts and Science came together on this beautiful afternoon in Bristol, Rhode Island as attendees were treated to a mezmerizing talk by Ben Mezrich on why he became writer and how the groundbreaking experiments of Dr. George Church inspired his latest novel, Woolly.

Ben Mezrich

With a writing career spanning 19 years, Mezrich has authored eighteen books, with a combined printing of over 4 million copies, including the wildly successful Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions and The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal, which  was adapted into the movie The Social Network –written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by David Fincher.  Mezrich is the only non-fiction author to have two number one box office movie adaptations.

George Church

Professor at Harvard & MIT, co-author of 425 papers, 95 patent publications & the book Regenesis, developed methods used for the first genome sequence (1994) & million-fold cost reductions since (via NGS and nanopores), plus barcoding, DNA assembly from chips, genome editing, writing & recoding. He co-initiated the BRAIN Initiative (2011) & Genome Projects (1984, 2005) to provide & interpret the world's only open-access personal precision medicine datasets.

Ben and George answered questions from the audience which sparked lively conversation on topics ranging from how movies are made to genetic editing!
