The National Hellenic Society (NHS) a non-profit foundation dedicated to preserving, passing on and celebrating Hellenic Heritage, is hosting a series of special screenings of “Zorba the Greek” across the United States for NHS members and guests. The screenings commemorate the golden anniversary of the release of the Fox Film Classic. The film adaptation of Nikos Kazantzakis’ book and epic portrayal of the lead character by actor Anthony Quinn is the quintessential embodiment of the fiery Greek spirit that perseveres through life’s hardship. Fox Film Chairman, President and NHS member, Jim Gianopulos remastered a digital version of “Zorba” which features a crisp new look and stirring soundtrack by composer Mikis Theodorakis. The digital version was made available to NHS by Fox Film for the screening.

Academy Award winning actor Anthony Quinn’s unforgettable tour de force performance as “Zorba” continues to inspire audiences. Thanks to online social media the film entertains the next generation.

NHS’ special guest, Katherine Quinn, the late wife of Anthony Quinn will share several anecdotal stories about her late husband, Tony Quinn–actor, gifted painter, sculptor and philanthropist. The Anthony Quinn Foundation was established to honor Anthony Quinn by providing scholarships to talented high school artists and musicians helping advance their craft. Scholarship recipients will also participate in the events.

NHS Program Director, Fanis Economidis stated, “what better way to celebrate Hellenic heritage than by commemorating this epic film that is now preserved for future generations to enjoy. To borrow a line from the movie Zorba ‘teaches us all to dance’ through life’s ups and downs.”

The Anthony Quinn Foundation is very grateful to the NHS for hosting screenings in Washington D.C, Boston, and Los Angeles in 2014. Click here to learn more about NHS.
