Zoe is a junior at Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies in Metairie, LA. Her love for music was nurtured from a young age, with her parents actively involved in brass groups. Even as a child, she witnessed the power of music to captivate and touch the hearts of those who listened. Believing in the profound and lasting impact of music on individuals, Zoe developed a deep passion for playing music and connecting with others through it. Joining a band at a young age allowed her to experience the joy of making music with others and observe how music could unite individuals from diverse backgrounds.
As Zoe progressed in her musical journey, she had the privilege of being a drum major, a role that went beyond leadership positions she had previously held. Standing in front of a group of musicians, she had the opportunity to lead and inspire them, fostering their love for music and the bonds they formed with each other. Through conducting, she felt a profound connection with the players and witnessed the positive response of the audience and parents. Music, for Zoe, was a transformative experience where time stood still, and the joy and interactions it facilitated left an indelible mark on her life.
With a desire to extend this joy and love for music to others, Zoe aspires to become a band director. She sees herself as a guiding role model, helping children develop their relationships with themselves, others, and music. To further her goals, Zoe seeks to attend the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, where she can gain valuable life experiences, expand her musical knowledge, and be exposed to different teaching perspectives. This program will provide her with the opportunity to experiment, learn from mistakes, and be inspired by a new environment of teachers and mentors, ultimately propelling her closer to her dreams. The Anthony Quinn Foundation scholarship has played a pivotal role in supporting Zoe's journey and enabling her to pursue her passion for music.
