Justin Lee

2013 Instrumental Scholarship Recipient

Justin's first experience performing at a retirement home was filled with nerves and self-doubt. As he played his Bach prelude, his trembling arms and quickened vibrato threatened to derail his performance. However, as he immersed himself in the music, the distractions faded away, and he poured his emotions into the piece. Despite some mocking laughter, Justin was surprised to receive warm smiles and applause from the audience. One woman approached him with tears in her eyes, expressing her heartfelt appreciation for his performance. It was in that moment that Justin realized his deep connection to music and knew that it was his calling.

For Justin, the violin holds a special place as an instrument of personal expression. It allows him to convey complex emotions that words often fail to capture. With each performance, he strives to establish a profound connection with his audience, aiming to leave a lasting impression. Justin believes in infusing each piece he plays with his unique flavor, offering a fresh perspective that distinguishes his interpretations from others.

Yearning to further develop his skills and passion for the violin, Justin will attend The Summer String Camp Program in Atlanta. He seeks a collaborative environment where he can work alongside the nation's top musicians, creating exceptional music and providing constructive support to one another. He hopes to receive direct instruction from renowned professionals outside of his current musical sphere, focusing on refining his musical expression and addressing technical challenges. Joining this program would be a dream come true for Justin, providing him with the platform to mature and grow as a musician while creating lasting memories.
