Ashlyn's passion for art began in elementary school, where she frequently found herself doodling and drawing on her homework and notes. Her teachers recognized her talent and encouraged her artistic expression. In middle school, a teacher further nurtured her gift and Ashlyn's confidence grew as she won a County Superintendent Art Award for a painting, which was displayed for a year. The positive impact her artwork had on others motivated her to pursue art wholeheartedly.
Ashlyn is dedicated to honing her drawing and painting skills and aims to learn as much as possible. She is currently enrolled in the Visual Art & Design Academy (VADA) at Lake Norman High School, a program that integrates art and academics to prepare students for future art endeavors. Actively involved in the Art Club, she has found inspiration and encouragement from her art educators. Ashlyn's art education has been primarily through public school, but she is grateful for the belief her teachers have shown in her, which has instilled self-confidence. Her ultimate goal is to make a difference in people's lives through art, promoting its importance, creativity, and the freedom it brings.
Attending the summer program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts would allow her to further advance her skills, knowledge, and technique, preparing her for college application portfolios and a future in the arts. With a strong belief in herself and a desire to express the transformative power of art to the world, Ashlyn greatly appreciates the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship financial support to attend a summer Visual Arts Program offered by the UNCSA for high school students.
