About the Program

Anthony Quinn Foundation Fellowship

The Anthony Quinn Foundation Fellowship was established to provide continued creative and financial support to a previous recipient of the Anthony Quinn Foundation (AQF) Scholarship. The goal of the AQF Fellowship is to give the recipient financial support so they can pursue their artistic work and achieve specific creative and career goals.  

 
 

Timeline

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year. (Deadline to apply for 2023 Award is December 4, 2022.) One Fellowship will be awarded in each calendar year and the recipient will be announced prior to December 31st of the same year.

Review Process

Judging panel will be made up of members of the AQF Board of Trustees in conjunction with an advisory panel made up of professional artists independent of the Foundation's Board.

 

Award Amount

$5,000 to one recipient

 
 

Eligibility

In order to qualify for the Anthony Quinn Foundation Fellowship, the applicant must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Must be a past recipient of the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship.

  2. Must have completed High School + at least one year of further education or professional training. 

  3. Must be involved in the arts since they received the Foundation scholarship.

  4. Must be the primary creative or performing artist for the proposed project. The supported project must represent the work of the applicant as an individual visual, performing, literary or media artist, and not work produced or presented as part of a group or duo.

  5. You may not apply if you have already received a Fellowship from the Foundation.

How to Apply

To apply for the Anthony Quinn Foundation Fellowship, applicants must submit all the following information fellowship@aqfoundation.org :

  1. Personal Statement

    Applicants must submit a personal statement answering the following questions (500-750 words):

    1. How did being the recipient of the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship influence the direction you took in the years following receipt of the award?

    2. Describe the project you would undertake if selected for this Fellowship.

    3. Using the mission statement of the Anthony Quinn Foundation as a guide:
      Art, in all its forms, is essential to learning and the enrichment of the mind.
      How does your project support this mission?

  2. Supplemental Materials

    1. A short resume illustrating past work and achievements including samples of your work. If:

      • Literary Arts:  The applicant must submit up to three PDF writing samples limited to three pages each that characterizes the applicant's work.   

      • Media Arts (Film, Photography, Animation and Anime, Computer Graphics): The applicant must submit between three and five JPEG images or up to three YouTube video samples, no longer than three minutes each that characterize the applicant's work. Please submit for images: title; media, size of work; For YouTube video samples: title, author, the character you are portraying, if applicable.

      • Performing Arts (Dance, Theater, Singing and Instrumental): The applicant must submit up to three YouTube video samples no longer than three minutes each that characterize the applicant's work. Please submit the title; choreographer, author, composer; the character you are portraying, if applicable. Please note: Audi-only submissions will not be considered.

      • Visual Arts & Design:  The applicant must submit between three to five JPEG images that characterize the applicant's work, each one must be labeled with: title; media; size; and date it was completed.

    2. A simple draft budget and a timeline for how the funds would be used.

What the AQF Fellowship will and will not fund

Funds received may be used for expenses related to a specific project, such as production, presentation, marketing, and reasonable administrative costs for carrying out the project. However, funds may NOT be used for the following:

1. Bricks and mortar activities and capital improvements

2. Eliminating or reducing existing debt or for contributions to an endowment fund

3. To pay any type of rent, residential or commercial

4. Fundraising efforts, such as social events or benefits

5. Prizes and awards

6. Hospitality expenses such as food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages, for openings or receptions

7. To reimburse funds previously expended (prior to receiving the AQF Fellowship)

 

Reporting Requirements

Fellowship recipients will be required to submit two follow-up reports:  

1. Within 3 months of receiving the award, provide an outline and plan of the project in work.

2. One year after receiving the award, provide an overview of their activities during the year of their Fellowship.

3. Half of the funds will be provided at the time the award is granted, and half will be paid at the time that the brief final report detailing the completion of the project.
